Modern Handrail
==A client in the Philadelphia region was upgrading the interior of their home and wanted to replace the old wooden railing with a modern and transitional interior railing design. So, the husband and wife team came to our shop to look at stair railing designs, materials and endless possibilities.
The first part of the railing design conversation was about the thickness or size of the vertical railing balusters. Did they want ¾” square for a heavier, more masculine look?? Or 5/8” square for less mass providing a more proportional look? Or ½” pickets for a more minimalistic look? They ultimately selected the sleek ½” pickets.
The next part of the design conversation was round pickets or square pickets? After looking at many iron railing design photos, they decided on a round collar with ½” round pickets. These featured a forged spoon above and below the collar. Also, they desired a sleek and minimalistic ½” round picket to be alternated with the collared pickets. This provided the transitional. Classic and contemporary design they were looking for.The other Railing design question we faced was. Deciding on the posts. What posts did they want to complement their unique railing design? After looking at many railing post designs, they selected a railing post that highlighted the forged spoon picket design. The client also liked the unique detail of the cap rail coming down and bending to flatten out before it attached to the bottom of the railing post.
Finally, the last railing design detail was to decide on the color. To aid in their decision the clients considered the surrounding decor. Ultimately, they settled on a modern color to accentuate their newly renovated interior. They selected a modern silver color for the interior stair railing to set a beautiful visual. Impact for their renovated space of the Philadelphia home.
