Our clients from New Jersey were floating on cloud 9 when they saw the results of their new floating staircase! What do you think?

It all started in New Jersey with just an idea for an exceptional main staircase with a grand cathedral design. The owners wanted to enhance their beautiful staircase idea by adding a modern stair railing to it. The railings design was beautiful, but very challenging!

One of the first challenges we faced was that a structural steel member was required to be buried into the wall to provide structure to the stair treads. This as you can imagine, was a huge undertaking!

To make this job even more difficult, there was also a 90° turn, a landing, and a few floating stair treads. We created the floating stair landing illusion with specially engineered attachment points. This provided minimal visual presence while maintaining the necessary structural integrity. The support structure needed in the CEILING of this beautiful home was  another huge challenge!

We had to employ our creativity when it came to the vertical suspension rods that suspended this modern staircase. The vertical rods were custom machined to provide an invisible attachment points. Brackets at the second-floor level were custom machined to keep the vertical rods aligned while having them stand off of the landing face. A very difficult task!

To finish it off, we wrapped and capped the floating stair treads completely  in a stunning white oak. We also engineered the floating landing from white oak to leave a flawless look.

This modern staircase will be great testament to the New Jersey architects design vision, and will enhance this exceptional modern home for many years to come!

Thanks to the Compass team. The original work that was done 12 years ago still looks great. Unfortunately, we had to remove the railings to install new pillars this year due to weather related issues with the stones. Compass removed the rails and reinstalled them after the repairs were done. All looks beautiful again.

We were thrilled to work with Compass again on our back porch project! The end result is gorgeous and the process was seem less. In a time characterized by delays, labor shortages and supply chain issues, Compass exceeded our expectations by providing a beautiful product and outstanding service in a timely manner. We look forward to working with Compass again in the future on all our metalwork needs.

Thank you so much again for your help!

Compass was very flexible when we changed our design. Quality was so wonderful, and unexpected.
We would never go to anyone else.

Amos, your team exceeded extremely high expectations. The stairs are the heart and soul of the house, and as the main focal point are a treasure to the owners and architect. Every visit is followed by “come see the stairs”. I know how challenging it was to build and install this masterpiece, having worked as a builder for 50 plus years, and admire how your crew stayed positive and focused throughout. I can’t wait for the next one!
