Iron Tree Railing
A client in New Jersey reached out to us about an artistic stair railing for their exterior stair. They had seen photos online of wrought iron tree railings that they liked. The iron railing project from the photos mimicked organic tree trunks for the railing posts and caprail. According to the inspiration photos the tree branches and twigs were forged from Iron bars. From iron sheet metal they created Japanese maple tree leaves. These leaves had been hot-forged with life-like veins and then hand hammered for individuality.
To start this clients project, we assessed budget and design concept. It was a bit higher then the client was comfortable with, so we went to work to make their dream railing more manageable. We suggested forgoing the leaves and twig infill and simply doing the hand forged trunks. However, this was still a bit too high due to the very custom nature. We evaluated the artistic iron railing design again and came up with a more cost-effective process. We suggested hot forging 1 5/8” OD pipe. Then we would create random texturing and would form radiuses around the entire pipe. The clients were very happy with this new game plan so we got to work!
After we created the wood like iron railing, we sand blasted the entire project. Next, we applied a hot-dip galvanized process to provide anti-corrosion properties. Then we brush blasted and powder-coated the project. Lastly, we installed this beautiful iron railing to its rightful place in this New Jersey home. It now provides safety and functionality in a stunning way for years to come.
