A couple in New Jersey were collaborating with a local architect to design a family estate. They took an undeveloped piece of property and created a masterpiece. The “cornerstone” piece of this private haven was the front gate.

The driveway gate design was inspired by the Iron Railing design in the main home. Click here to see it!

One constraint we had to meet was the pool enclosure code requirement. With dialogue between the architect, client, and craftsmen, we strove to design the driveway gates to follow the design continuity that could be found throughout the property while creatively adding infill to maintain code. The agreed solution was to add some contemporary with a rectilinear design. This was custom created and built into the center of the driveway gate frame.

The entire estate gate was created out of aircraft grade aluminum. The gate hinge posts were 6×6. To add some additional value, we used our exclusive heavy-duty driveway gate hinge; the “Million Dollar” hinge.

The security gates were strategically placed to meet the latest UL325 safety requirements to prevent any areas of entrapment that could endanger a child. This was done by incorporating a small section of driveway gate design between the masonry pillar and the hinge post. This small section provides enough space for a child’s body to fit between the masonry pillar and the gate; in the case that it was to automatically open while a child was there.

Also, part of our scope was the integration of the gate automation. This included the installation of the openers with exit loop, shadow loop, safety loop, and reverse loop. For the best in aesthetics of these beautiful driveway gates, the gate openers were installed underground. This way there were no unsightly gate opener boxes or arms to detract from this amazing driveway gate design.

All the additional UL325 requirements for a safe security gate operation were installed, such as photo eye and siren sensor. Even battery backup was installed in the case of a power failure! The keypad selected was a Wi-Fi Predator keypad. This keypad connects directly with the client’s cell phone and allows the client to manage their entrance gate directly anywhere in the world; which makes this product the best in current driveway technology.

Now, the client can enjoy the security and privacy that their newly crafted modern estate gate provides.

As the owner of an exclusive property, we were looking for custom ironworks replicated from England in the 1860s. The photo we had was sketchy, but these passionate craftsmen knew their business, knew the details of this ancient craft and provided tips on adding authenticity. They provided excellent communication throughout the creativity and design process, then with superb, detailed craftsmanship, they created and installed an exceptional piece of ironwork that is rich in detail, authentic, yet is engineered to withstand use for decades, utilizing 100% recycled material and an eco-friendly durable finish.

We had a railing, designed, created, and installed by Compass Ironworks. Amos and Aaron were extremely professional. They kept us informed of how things were progressing. We even visited the shop when the railing was almost complete. We HIGHLY recommend Compass Ironworks! We have had several people knock on our door to ask about who made our beautiful railing. Thank you for your hard work!

We had a rather unusual design for our front railings, but the folks at Compass Ironworks took it in stride, figured out how to make it and delivered EXACTLY what we were hoping for — all at a reasonable price. Plus they’re just plain nice to deal with.
